How to learn any language in six months
Modelling
- look around for people who can already do it
look for situations where
it's already working
- identify the principles (that work) and apply them.
5 principles of rapid language acquisition
- attention meaning relevance memory
- focus on language content that is relevant to you
- information that help survival has relevance
- information that helps achive personal goals has relevance
- Use your new language as a tool to communicate, from day 1
- we master tools by using tools
- we learn tools fastest when they are relevant to us
- when you first understand the message, than you will unconsciously
acquire the language. Comprehension is key, and language learning is not
about accumulating lots of knowledge.
- is like physiological training
- hear the sounds of th language
- speaking takes muscles (43 muscles in a face); coordinate those;
when your face hurts, you are doing it right
- Psyco-physiological state matters!
If you're angry, worried, upset, you're not going to learn.
If you're happy, relaxed, in an alpha brain state, curios, you're going to
learn really quickly.
And very specifically you need to be tolerant of ambiguity: if you need to
understand 100%, you'll be incredibly upset all the time, because you're not
perfect; just pay attention to what you do understand.
